The Most Fun And Best Water Exercise For Back Pain and General Fitness
FUN WATER EXERCISES
When I was pregnant with my first child I had the worst case of sciatica which kept me bedridden for the last 7 weeks of my pregnancy. I couldn’t move a muscle and the pain was excruciating. During this time the doctors couldn’t x-ray what happened or give me any pain medication. After giving birth, I had an MRI done to see exactly what was wrong.
It turned out that the pain I was having wasn’t just from sciatica, but from having a completely bulging disc that was causing my vertebra to rub against each other. The doctors rushed to operate on my back, where the chance of a successful operation is 50/50. This meant I would either be able to walk again or be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life.
I believe in the power of will and nature, so I decided to find another solution to my back problem and if nothing worked, I had no choice but to operate. I switched to acupuncture and low-impact exercise, which ultimately saved me from being on the operating table.
the acupuncture completely dissolved the bulging disc in my body, so my pain slowly went away, and the water exercise allowed me to strengthen the muscles in my lower back and eventually my whole body.
I started walking and swimming up and down the lane in the pool, which didn’t excite me, coupled with some other exercises that didn’t motivate me. I suppose this is why so many different methods of water exercise have been developed.
So I switched to water yoga, which was perfect for me at the time and much more interesting. When I got a bit stronger I moved on to aqua-aerobics, deep water exercises etc… I enjoyed all of them but I still felt pushed towards them, they didn’t really grab me. I had to keep working out, stopping wasn’t an option if I wanted to do things with my new first baby (Needless to say I was slowly getting better and I already knew I wasn’t going to have back surgery).
That’s when I discovered waterwheel or aquawheel riding at the Des-Renford Pool in Maroubra, Sydney.
It was the best thing for me, because not only did I find something completely different, I also found something that is SO MUCH FUN. I couldn’t get enough of it and became addicted to the water wheel courses. Shortly after starting Aquabike lessons, I was able to roll around on the floor with my one-year-old for the first time. Aqua biking has taken me to a level of fitness that I never thought was possible for me.
It works like this: You sit on a stationary bike in the pool (Water pas high) and you start to twirl according to the fitness instructor. After warming up, he adds arm exercises that are also in the water. Some of the different types of exercises are very challenging, yet so much fun. Strengthens all your major and minor supporting muscles; legs, buttocks, abdomen, arms and chest.
A case study shows that water exercises are gentler on your joints and muscles than exercises on land due to the properties of water. The “Aqua Bike” or “Water Bike” exercise is also well known as an excellent cardiovascular fitness exercise. It doesn’t mean that exercising on land isn’t good for you, it just means that exercising in water is better for you, whether you’re a fit person trying to stay healthy and fit or a lean person trying to get to condition. improve strength
It’s been 6 years since I started the “Aquabike” classes and I firmly believe that low impact exercises are the safest way to exercise to lose weight, get fit and tone your muscles; when you say that, you need to have fun and be motivated while working out. Luckily, I found what I think is the most fun fitness program ever (Land or Water).
It turns out that the “Aqua bike” and “Aqua treadmill” classes are also excellent for hydrotherapy. It’s definitely more fun than walking up and down the swimming lane.
Here are other aquatic fitness centers around Australia that have this amazing program; I really believe that if it’s near you, you should give it a try.
Enjoy!
