How Do Anaconda Snakes Sexually Reproduce? – Explained!
An important feature of a living organism is that it reproduces. She gives birth to young like herself. Because of this, they protect themselves from extinction and multiply from one era to another.
Most believe that since the anaconda is a reptile, it lays eggs. And it is done. But this is not the case with anacondas. Unlike most egg-laying reptiles, the anaconda is a viviparous reptile. They give birth to living offspring. It reproduces abundantly and can give birth to two to three dozen cubs or even more at once.
Like all snakes, anacondas reproduce sexually. Courtship between male and female anacondas lasts more than two months, usually beginning in April and May. After courtship is over, eggs are fertilized in the female anaconda’s body.
Anacondas courtship and mate in the water. To attract the male, the female lays down a pheromone trail or releases some type of stimulant into the air. In this way, the female attracts the male to her. During the breeding process, twelve males and one female group together in a sort of ball, known as a breeding ball.
When viewed from a distance, the breeding ball is constantly moving like a huge leather ball being pushed and pumped. What actually happens is that each male fights the other males to mate with the female. This slow fight between males can last two to four weeks. This depends on the female, as she is the largest and strongest of all the anacondas in this breeding group.
For arousal and mating, females use their spurs. When mating, they aggressively press their cloacal parts against the female’s body. Meanwhile, they constantly use their spurs to scratch the female. The climax of their copulation occurs when the female raises her cloacal part, allowing the cloacae of both to move together. After mating, the female is pregnant for 6 months.
After 6 months, the female gives birth to live anacondas. Females lose almost half their weight after pregnancy. Newborn anacondas are called neonates. They measure 70-80 cm at birth, but they grow quickly. They become sexually mature during the first few years, after which their growth slows.
In fact, this fascinating reptile can now be seen in zoos and even in animal centers in some parts of our world. For some countries, it’s just another exotic pet if you look at a lot of pictures online. Even clueless children in some countries play with such young anacondas in South America.
However, let me remind you that there is a big difference between Hollywood snakes via Jennifer Lopez’s beautifully portrayed Hollywood body and realistic views of an anaconda snake in a close encounter – isn’t there? Be sure to continue your diligence in such an amazing creation, you might like what you see on popular websites online.
