The climax of their copulation occurs when the female raises her cloacal part, allowing the cloacae of both to move together. After mating, the female is pregnant for 6 months.

After 6 months, the female gives birth to live anacondas. Females lose almost half their weight after pregnancy. Newborn anacondas are called neonates. They measure 70-80 cm at birth, but they grow quickly. They become sexually mature during the first few years, after which their growth slows.
