Khichdi:
This is considered one of the most nutritious and healthy first foods for babies. It is easy to make and various vegetables can easily be incorporated. It helps in gaining body weight and is also easily digestible.
Components:
• Rice/Dalia (half a cup),
• Moong Dal (half cup),
• Ghee (1 kg),
• Cumin seeds (1/2 kg)
• Vegetables: Carrot, tomato, spinach, bottle guard, potato (cut into small pieces)
• Spices: Salt, pepper, and Turmeric
• Water (1 cup)
Cooking time: 15 to 20 minutes
Recipe:
Pick, wash and soak the rice and put it in some water. Put the ghee or butter in a pressure cooker and heat it, then add the cumin seeds until it starts to splutter. If you want you can add a pinch of asafoetida, it helps digestion. Then put all the vegetables in a pressure cooker and sauté them for a while. Add all the spices like salt (to taste), pepper (a pinch) and turmeric and let it simmer for a minute. Add rice and dal and 1 cup of water. Give a couple of whistles and Voila! A perfect meal is ready for your baby.
PS You can adjust the consistency of this dish as per your choice.
Oat Pancakes:
Components:
• Powdered oats (half a cup) ***roast half a cup of oats for a minute and then grind them into powder***
• Fruits: banana, blueberry, apple, grapes
• Dry fruits (chopped and roasted)
• Honey (2 kg)
• Rice powder (Half a cup)
• Baking powder (A pinch or two)
• Milk (1.5 cups)
Cooking time: 10 to 15 minutes
Recipe:
Mix the oat powder, rice powder, sugar, salt, baking powder in a bowl. Pour milk into it and mix it well. Put a pan on the stove and add a few drops of butter. Drop a ladle full of prepared batter and spread it evenly in a circular motion. Cook it on medium heat on both sides and transfer it to a plate. Layer it with chopped fruit, nuts and top with a dollop of honey.
Your healthy and delicious dessert is ready and your kids will love it.
PS: You can use chocolate syrup once in a while to change the taste. Put a dollop of peanut butter on top of a pancake, drizzle with some chocolate syrup and serve to your little ones.
