When I like to walk, I remember that there are a few things to consider, especially when I walk to lose weight…

First, I try to get outside and walk at least 4 or 5 times a week. I find that I don’t see the results I want any less, but you also need your rest. So if you do long walks, I recommend taking a few days a week to rest.

If you’ve ever tried walking to lose weight, you’ll understand when I say that at first it’s a challenge to get motivated to get outside and pump up your leg muscles. Those of us who struggle with any kind of weight issues know that exercise takes discipline and it sucks at first!!

However, it is very important that you stick to a solid walking routine.

Another important aspect of walking for weight loss is the intensity of your walks. There will be a difference between a leisurely walk on a flat road and a road with dips and bigger hills. No rocket science.

Increased intensity = more calories burned!

I’m actually in a place where I have no choice but to walk outside where there are a lot of hills. The great thing is that the hills offer a lot of muscle work, both ways. Did you know that walking downhill can also help lower your blood sugar? And it helps lower cholesterol. So not only are you exercising your muscles, but you’re also reaping other health benefits.

If you don’t have a walk with hills around, try walking up and down the stairs a few times before and after your walk. This will help you build your endurance and strength in your leg muscles, which in turn leads to a better metabolic rate. Remember that you are building muscle when you walk. Muscle feeds on calories and ultimately leads to weight loss.

Walking for weight loss is 100% possible and I promise if you stick to a regular routine it will work for you.
