I can’t stand it whenever I hear this question: “how many calories do I need to burn?” Now I suppose I could do the right thing about this question and be like the hundreds of other ridiculous websites, programs and supposed weight loss experts that are on the internet and tell you that the answer to the question of how many calories do I need to burn is five hundred a day! You see you either need to eat 500 calories less per day or exercise enough to burn at least 500 calories per day to lose 1-2 pounds! Wan Wan Wan!

But being right is never one of my strong points!! I mean come on?? What will this information be of use to you?? Who in their right mind thinks they’ll spend the rest of their lives counting calories consumed or burned? Instead, adapt it as your mindset and you’ll see much better results with your weight for life!

Okay, so most people know that they need a certain amount of calories for their body to function properly. If you’re active or doing other more strenuous tasks during the day, you need even more. I recommend thinking of the calories you need for energy as the money in your pocket. Everyone has an overall “budget” of calories, and with any budget, you should break it down into “needs” and “extras.”

With your financial budget, the necessities would be things like your mortgage and groceries. Extras would be like a vacation, going out to eat, new shoes, etc. In a calorie budget, essentials are the minimum calories needed to meet your nutritional needs. The nutrients contained in food are the basic components that we need to sustain life, growth and activity. Healthy eating is often misinterpreted as drastically cutting calories or following unbalanced, crash diets. Why waste extra calories on high-fat or high-sugar foods when healthier options taste just as good?
