Is Insanity Workout Right for Me?

Last year I saw an ad on TV for a training program known as Insanity. I know it seems really cliché to witness this on late night TV, but that’s how I found out about it. These people trained so intensely. Performing high-intensity movements. It all seemed exhausting. Of course I was interested in the before and after pictures. I realized that the results might be atypical, yet I was looking for a new exercise routine to lose unwanted weight. I was lifting weights and doing some slow, steady cardio a few times a week, but I wasn’t losing the weight I wanted to. In fact, I gained weight simply because my eating habits were full of fried foods, highly processed snacks, desserts combined with overeating. Not very smart, I know now.

I continued to go online and browse the Insanity reviews. I personally wanted to find out exactly what others had to say about it. I was satisfied enough to admit that it wasn’t a gimmick and the final results at the end might be what I was looking for.

The first thing you will do will be a fitness test. In fact, it is more than a regular test. It’s similar to exercise! You have to do specific movements and calculate the total number of repetitions you are able to do. Things like power jumps, push-up jacks and power knees for example. Write it down. Every few weeks you retake the test and determine how many you can do. I was pleasantly shocked to discover my improvement just in the subsequent fit test! It gave me the will to keep going when there were days I didn’t want to exercise.

The Insanity Calendar training plan allows you to train 6 days a week. You will do a plyometric cardio circuit, cardio power and resistance, cardio recovery and clean cardio. One every day with a fitness test every 2 weeks with one rest day every week. This is the first month. The program keeps your body working on different things every day so it doesn’t get used to it. After a month you will have 7 days of active recovery. It’s 6 days of training with a full day of rest, but it’s easier to let the muscles and the whole body recover and prepare for the next month. The second four weeks follow the same concepts, but start each workout with the word “MAX”. I went through the first four weeks feeling amazing, but the second month felt like I was starting over!

There were times when I didn’t feel like working out mainly because I realized it would probably be challenging. You should be breathing hard and sweating every time you warm up on your own. It will hurt at first because your muscles are not used to it. Your body should adapt in time. To really get great results, you have to put in the time and effort.

When you start, you won’t be able to do many reps. I realized that the people in the video who looked in great shape needed to take breaks during the routine. They’ve been going through Insanity longer than I have, but they still need to take more breaks. The instructor, Shaun T, encourages this but will constantly push you to perform as much as you can.

To go along with a fantastic exercise program, you need to follow a nutritional plan. These include one that you may have followed or I simply followed something that I had knowledge of when I was younger. I usually had 5-6 smaller meals a day. Breakfast (very important), lunch, dinner and then some nutritious snacks between my meals. Definitely no fried foods. No sodas. Cut back on sugars and sodium. Lower fat options. A lot more whole grains. I had one day off a week where I ate whatever I wanted and craved. I ate hamburgers, chips, delicious chocolate chip cookies, more hamburgers, and ice cream at night on one day off. I would eat until I felt so full and then I definitely wouldn’t want to consume that kind of food for the rest of the week and I can focus on healthy eating. That’s the trick in my situation.

My impression is that Insanity is definitely a challenging workout routine that will undoubtedly test you physically and mentally. If you want to sweat a little regularly, don’t get this program. If you’re looking for a life-changing boost, check out Insanity. The end results I got from this were more energy, a slimmer waist, muscles, a stronger core (abs) and also the confidence to know that I could complete a program like Insanity. I lost ten pounds in sixty days, which may not seem like much, but I wasn’t obese in the first place. I just got very lazy, felt my pants coming up, experienced frequent headaches, less energy throughout the day and I got it before it got out of control. I believe someone with even bigger weight loss goals will find greater end results. 10 pounds may not seem like a lot, but remember that lean muscle weighs more than body fat. So I probably added muscle and burned fat at the same time.

No matter what fitness level you start with, you’ll find Insanity challenging to get started. I’ve read P90X finalists who go on to Insanity talk about how intense it really is! Immediately after each workout, you will feel vital because your endorphins (hormones of happiness) will be pumping intensely.

Remember that losing excess fat takes time and two months is not that long after many years of putting on unwanted pounds. However, with the Insanity work out program, it is quite possible for an incredible body transformation if you work hard and put healthy and balanced meals in your mouth. Check out the Insanity reviews to get an idea of what people are saying about it.
