Teen Pregnancy and How To Reclaim Your Life
Having a baby remains the greatest gift and feeling in the world, and women have been blessed with a womb and everything needed to bear children. But won’t it be okay to have it at the right time? The age between ten and nineteen is a developmental age that begins differently for every girl. This is the time when a girl has a chance to enjoy herself as she develops into full womanhood and begins to plan, go to school, and enjoy her teenage years. In the normal world, she still has to sort of take instructions from her parents, who try their best to send her to school and help her be the best she can be.
Statistics show that one in three girls in America is estimated to become pregnant at least once by the time they reach their twenties. However, this number is better than ten years ago when it was four out of ten girls, still too high of course. Center for Disease Control [CDC] released a new report on the U.S. birth rate, and for the first time in fourteen years, the teen pregnancy rate increased by 3.5% from 2005 to 2006, the most recent year for which data is available. For example, in New York alone, doctors predict that 40,000 teenagers will become pregnant this year. I can’t even begin to talk about Africa and other third world countries because it’s the worst and so rampant, so it’s very clear that we live in a time where teenage pregnancy has taken over the world. Some are the result of stupid mistakes, some are the result of carelessness, peer pressure, some are just for fun, some are cultural and some are the result of rape.
Whichever way it happens, it’s not the best way. Having children is the hardest thing any boy or girl should ever do because at that time they are still a teenager who will now have to take on the responsibilities of an adult when this happens. Teenage pregnancy does not only have serious consequences for the mothers, but also affects the fathers of the child, the poor little child, the grandparents and society.
God created us to live once and only once. Once you pass a certain age, you never go back to it. Like when you’re fifteen and you’re developing into this really pretty girl and every part of you is pretty and all of a sudden some guy comes along and sweeps you off your feet and you not only lose your virginity but you get pregnant.
When that happens, things start to go downhill, which starts with your body. Your hormones have been evolving at double the rate of normal – breasts have grown and sometimes start to sag, stomach is stretched – hence stretch marks, loose or cracked skin due to weight gain. Then your self-esteem drops to zero, then the financial aspect starts to set in and you’re newly fifteen and the baby’s daddy is also around your age and in high school, of course without the ability to support you and the child. And maybe both your parents were struggling to pay your school fees. To make matters worse, the father of the child will run away and live with you and this child either with your parents or alone with you. Before you know it, you’re overwhelmed and depressed about not coming across as a mother—which itself has many ramifications.
Some girls even go so far as to abuse drugs or alcohol to normalize the pain. Some engage in illicit sexual activities such as prostitution for money or again to cover up the pain. Some girls begin to withdraw from society, friends and family members and are left with never-ending pain and regret. Some girls decide to have an abortion, which can be very complicated, or they decide to put the baby up for adoption and still regret not being ready. Being a parent is always hard, and being a teen parent is especially hard on both mother and child. Teen mothers are more likely to use drugs after high school and therefore unable to achieve their goals and more likely to be single parents for life. Children of teenage parents are also more likely to repeat grades, be in poor health, remain in poverty and lack good parenting and education, be victims of abuse and neglect, be placed in foster care, be incarcerated, and be abandoned. alone outside of school. Worst of all, they become teenage parents themselves, creating an intergenerational cycle.
The effect on fathers is not as strong as on girls. However; most also drop out of school or get very low-paying jobs to care for their children. Some run away as soon as they hear that a girl is pregnant, while some deny having anything to do with you. Most of them also get into drugs, alcohol, theft, and jobs they wouldn’t do if they waited for the right time. 40-60% of these boys end up in prisons where the children grow up not knowing who their father is and repeat the cycle.
Grandparents are suffering as is society as they have to find the means to care for these teenage mothers and their children. But do you want to rely on your parents, adoption agencies or welfare to take care of you and your children? Isn’t it very low and cheap? In short, having a child as a teenager makes it very difficult for a boy or girl to achieve their goals, such as finishing high school, going to college, getting a good job, or even getting married, which poses additional challenges for the child as well. All of the above effects are known to seriously disrupt relationships between teen mothers and the child’s father, so that a full 70% of teen parents do not end up together.
But there is hope
This leads me to five very effective steps to finally get your life back.
1]Acceptance:
It may sound harsh, but just realizing what’s not right in your life is 98% the struggle. It’s hard, but once you know what’s wrong, you instinctively find a way to deal with it. Teenage pregnancy brings with it a number of difficulties, economic, emotional, psychological and physical. Many teenagers, in order to normalize the pain, engage in drug dealing, alcohol, sex prostitution. But I strongly advise anyone in this situation to face it with a clear mind to be able to think properly. I encourage teenage mothers to make a list.
As soon as you wake up, before you can settle into your routine, your defenses are ready. Write how you feel. You’re really happy where you are
Do you enjoy being out of school?
What do you want for your life and for your child?
What do you love about life? Write down everything in your life that you are truly happy about and everything that you are not happy with, then you can start looking for ways to adjust and reclaim your life. Acceptance should also mean!
2]Take full responsibility for your situation.
Stop pointing fingers at anyone, even the father of the child.
You and only you can change your situation and all you need to do is first admit that it’s wrong and you don’t want to stay in one place in bitterness. Benefits with a child do not have to prevent you from achieving your goals. It can only be temporary. Instead, it should put some strength in you to fight for your success to give your child the best in life and help stop the cycle of teen pregnancy. As you do all of this, ask God to guide you by showing you how to reclaim your life. Ask Him for strength and courage to start looking at your child as a blessing instead, forgive yourself and everyone involved, and focus on getting out of this.
In this case, ask yourself, how can I get out of this mess?
What can I do to be responsible to my child, my parents, and my community?
Is blaming or pointing fingers reasonable and worthy?
What can I do to prevent this from happening to me, my son or daughter?
What legacy do I intend to live up to.
3]Keep yourself organized [no clutters]
You may be wondering what order has to do with having a baby or getting my life back. Yes, it works. Read on to find out. Staying organized in any aspect of your life will not only help you stay focused, but help you thrive in any crisis.
This should start first thing when you get out of bed. Say your prayer [thanking God for a new day and ask for guidance for day], make your bed, fold what needs to be folded, put it away and proceed to the bathroom to brush your teeth and then take a nice warm shower. After all the adjustments, you’ll feel energized to face the day. Then you can attend to other household chores and make sure everything is in order. Keeping your surroundings clean and tidy doesn’t just mean feeling good on the inside, but also transitioning outwards and into society. Staying dirty and clumsy only adds to the stress because then your mine feels exactly like your surroundings.
In this case, I recommend making a to-do list for the day, putting it on the fridge or taking it with you to work if you work away from home. I believe that if your house or neighborhood is clear of clutter, then your mine will be free and organized as well. Then!
4]Find reasons to be grateful.
Having a child is the greatest gift and an amazing feeling at the same time. But having it at the right time is the best. Having a child as a teenage mother is so hard on everyone involved because of the package that comes with it. But a child remains a child and the best gift, no matter how it was born. So instead of focusing on this flaw, turn it around and start looking at yourself as one of the blessed among other women for being blessed with the fruit of the womb. Look at that child as precious gold. Do things that are rewarding and will make you and your baby happy, and things that will glorify God. If you can sing, join a choir, if you can dance, join a dance group.
If you can write, pick up a pen and a laptop or computer and get to work, if you are gifted with some special skills or talents, which I believe we all have, it’s time to use them. Stay positive about life and be a better person despite everything. Stay away from anything that can discourage your way of thinking. Yes, it’s never too late to reclaim your life. AND REMEMBER THAT WITH THIS ASPECT YOU CAN TURN YOUR FAILURES INTO COMBACKS AND MAYBE EMPOWER OTHER WOMEN. Never let yourself remain ideal.
And that brings us to the last and most important aspect!
5]Give yourself the gift of education
How many people bear with me remains the number one key that can lift you out of low self-esteem, humiliation, self-defeat, and poverty. It is the key to freedom. And the US of A is a place where anyone, regardless of race or gender, can get in without a problem. The USA A offers great opportunities like financial aid and all kinds of student loans that you won’t find in other parts of the world and are worth taking advantage of.
Go to school and at least get a degree, although I still recommend not settling for less. You can still follow your heart and you can still find the purpose for which you are here on earth. You can be a teenager/single mother but still be an excellent woman. Don’t listen to people tell you negative things like you can’t do it, never take No for an answer or settle for less because you’re a teen mom. I write from personal experience.
I’ve been a teenage mother since I was thirteen, and even though I came from a continent with very little to no opportunities, I thrived because I followed all of these steps.
Choose your friends. People with the same goals as you. Those who are ambitious and motivated to change their lives. Avoid negative people because all they do is drain away any self-worth you ever had. Stop making excuses.
Get some kind of vocational training or learn a trade and take every opportunity that comes your way because it will help you get your life back.
