There are two strands to having abs worthy of compliments: A body fat percentage below 16% – 19%, which is good news for girls – men should drop below 10% – 11%. Body fat measurement
To make sure you have the right body fat levels you will need to measure your body fat percentage. There are two good methods available to most people: Using a bioelectrical impedance method or a skinfold caliper method.
Bioelectrical Impedance – This method measures how well a small electrical charge passes through the body (don’t worry so small you won’t feel it!). Usually a special set of scales. You can buy them anywhere general scales are sold. They can be purchased for less than $40. The scale can also be
found in most health and fitness centers.
Calipers – Essentially your skin is “pinched” and the thickness of this caliper is measured. It’s much easier to let someone else do this measurement for you – the trainers at your local gym will probably know how and have the relevant equipment. It is possible to buy a set of calipers yourself. they will come with instructions on how to use them and how to calculate your body fat percentage.
Body fat reduction
Fortunately, exercise will help tone your abs and reduce body fat! But you will also need to eat a sensible diet. The main reason why people who work out well and yet don’t look that great is because they don’t eat well either.
It seems like every day a new revolutionary diet hits the market, closely followed by celebrities who swear by it. But in the long run, the best diet is one that includes as few processed foods as possible, and the only real way to lose weight consistently is to take in fewer calories than you expend.
So a good diet with few calories and few processed foods will soon lead to hearing “Nice girl with abs!”
Tone your abs
There are many great exercises for toning abs, but think for a moment – have you ever seen someone with great abs who doesn’t have other great muscles? Our muscles all work together, and while you can work specific muscles, life will have you using muscle combinations most of the time.
