Fast Muscle Mass Building-The Ten Success Principles
As the saying goes, “the methods are many, the principles are few, the methods may change, but the principles never do”, this holds just as much for weight training and bodybuilding as anything else. Every day we hear about revolutionary new workouts, exercises, tricks, quick fixes, you name it. While I can’t say I agree with many of the different “methods” of gaining weight and building muscle these days, the principles for achieving your goals will always remain the same.
As a result, I created what I call, “The Ten Success Principles for Fast Muscle Growth.” I have listed these principles so that even the leanest die-hard can apply and grow. Follow these principles, cement them in your mind, and you’ll be well on your way to long-term success from your endeavors. If you are wondering what is the best way to build muscle fast, then your answers are below. All you have to do is apply these principles.
Principle 1: You don’t know what you don’t know – Become a student
When we realize that you don’t know what you don’t know, we can become more teachable and absorb knowledge that we can apply for better results from the gym. If you have a “know it all” attitude, it just means you are stagnant and your mind will never outgrow its current state. Become a lifelong student of weight training and bodybuilding, read as much material as you can on every topic: training, nutrition, supplements, the whole works. A word of caution is this: be careful where you get your opinions and information. Look only for those with proven results and watch out for ‘armchair experts’ and ‘magazine bodybuilders’.
Principle 2: Begin with the end in mind
Too many exercisers today are just wondering around aimlessly in the gym doing whatever exercise they want and exercising whenever they want. If you don’t have a target, you’ll hit it with amazing accuracy! In other words, if you don’t know EXACTLY what you’re trying to achieve by going to the gym every day, you’re never going to get anywhere. Always make sure you are on a schedule and stick to it until the end. Discover your “why” and you will be able to overcome any “how”. Always go to the gym knowing exactly what you’re going to do right down to the last rep of the last exercise.
Principle 3: You get what you imagine
As David Schwartz says in his fantastic book, The Magic of Thinking Big, “Faith, strong faith, activates the mind to find ways and means and how to… Disbelief is a negative force. When the mind does not believe or doubts, the mind attracts ‘reasons’ to support disbelief.” Always go to the gym with a positive attitude and a firm belief that you are gradually gaining muscle mass. Eliminate any negative beliefs about your success or you will pay the price to gain just that what do you imagine
Principle 4: There is no great success without great commitment
If you’re not committed, you might get carried away. Define in your mind exactly the results you want and commit to yourself that you will do whatever it takes to achieve them. When you are committed, truly committed, no trivial thought or distraction will ever stop you on your way to your goal. You will be unstoppable and your end in mind will be a foregone conclusion. As Yoda said, “There is no trying, only doing.”
Principle 5: Only lose when you accept failure as a reality and decide to stop trying
Failure is a HUGE key to success. The price of success is thousands of failures. Those who are not willing to pay this price will not be able to get the body they want. As long as you learn from your experience, you will always move forward. Keep learning and performing and do this cycle again and again and again until you succeed. Success is often right after where most people give up. Remember, “Quitters never win, winners never quit.”
Principle 6: Less is More – Quality, not Quantity
When the goal is to gain weight and/or build muscle, always keep your workouts short. All your muscles need is an intense workout with compound exercises and 110% effort, a few days a week. Don’t think that training 7 days a week for 2 or 3 hours a day will give you better results. Focus on a few exercises, a few days a week for no more than 1 ½ hours, tops. Overtraining is one of the main causes of failure when trying to gain weight and build muscle. Don’t confuse ambition with training time, it’s not how much time you spend in the gym that counts, it’s the desire you put into the time you are in the gym.
Principle 7: Major in complex exercises
Although there are literally thousands of training programs you can find today, one truth that will never change when it comes to gaining muscle mass is that compound exercises have and will always be the best of the best. Exercises like squats, bench press and squat rows will always remain at the top of every successful bodybuilders list. Focus on these and other basic compound exercises and you will never be disappointed with your results.
Principle 8: Hard work
Nothing beats good old fashioned hard work and what better way to express it than weight training. Unfortunately, the media today is always trying to make your training and exercises “easier”. If you want to build muscle mass, you’re going to have to put in some blood, sweat and tears, there’s no two ways about it. As long as you follow some solid muscle building workouts and use safety precautions and common sense, then push yourself to the limit with each workout. You’re never going to ease your way to real muscle mass, even if you trained easy for a thousand years.
Principle 9: Progressive Overload
If you want more muscle mass, you should continue to add weight on a regular basis, period. This is one of the most basic yet overlooked principles of gaining muscle mass. Get into the habit of gradually adding weight whenever you can. The moment you settle down and stop pushing yourself is when your muscle mass growth will start to stagnate. Resistance is the only opportunity for growth. The worst thing you can do is to achieve one goal without setting another first.
Principle 10: A proper diet
I couldn’t leave this out. After all, the food you eat is the direct fuel for your muscle growth. You can work out until the cows come home, but without a proper muscle building nutrition plan your body simply won’t grow, it’s not physically strong either! It is essential to know the right food to build muscle properly. Go back to the very beginning and learn all you can about dieting for muscle mass so you can get the most out of your efforts in the gym.
