How to Lose Baby Weight Fast, Safely & For Good

One of the most common questions women will ask after giving birth is ‘How can I lose weight fast?’ The problem, however, is that losing baby weight quickly (like any scale) is not the safest or best method. Usually, women who go on crash diets end up gaining the pounds back, and very quickly.

No, you won’t lose weight in a week or even 2, but it doesn’t take long to get back to your pre-pregnancy bliss. If you follow a good diet and fitness plan, you should have no problem losing weight quickly and keeping it off.

This is exactly how I lost the baby weight. It didn’t take me long either, but I needed a program that would give me the guidance and direction I was looking for to lose weight safely and without affecting my milk production (another important reason why you shouldn’t consider crash diets!).

One of the first things I learned about losing weight was not to rush, but to exercise when I felt like it and when I was ready. It can take up to 6 months for your body to recover from pregnancy and you need to keep that in mind! Therefore, it is important to devote time to exercise. You start by starting with some low-impact exercises or simply taking brisk walks with your baby (wearing a sling will also give you resistance!). This is what I did. Walking and holding my baby in a swaddling was lovely and it also calmed him when he was colic (and also recently when he was teething). So even just getting out when your child is upset would be a good goal to start with.

The next thing everyone tells you is to breastfeed! Not only will it help you quickly shrink your uterus back to its normal size, but it will also help you lose weight much faster (and of course, it’s best for your baby). Much of the extra weight we gained during pregnancy helped prepare us for breastfeeding. Of course, it’s not an option for everyone, but not breastfeeding will inevitably make it a little harder to shed those extra pounds. It definitely paid off for me.

Eating low-fat foods will also help you lose weight quickly. Asking your spouse or family member to help you prepare a nutritious meal will not only help you lose weight, but also help keep your energy levels up for your new bundle of joy! Keep it simple. It doesn’t have to be complicated and eat a lot of fruit before a meal (fruit digests much faster than any other food and eating before a meal will be better for your digestion). This is probably the hardest part, it was for me. There is so much information floating around and as a new mum I haven’t had time to really dig into what I should be eating – having a newborn is such a big event. This is why watching the program really helped me.

When you give birth, you lose a lot of weight very quickly and find that you can fit into clothes that you couldn’t before. This can give you a boost, a head start on your weight loss efforts. Find a nutritional diet and low-impact exercise program and you’ll be surprised how much leaner you’ll be in just a few weeks. Not only will you be slimmer, but people will notice – people will expect you to run all the time and not have time, but you can surprise them! This will further encourage you into your new life as a healthy mother! It’s not unrealistic to lose your pregnancy weight in a few months – I did it and quite easily with a structured program.
