It’s just like school – you can finish after 12 years, or 16 if you were lucky enough to attend college, or even more years if you pursued an advanced degree or professional qualification. But learning is a lifelong process. Those who are most successful in life take the time to embrace that they are constantly learning. When it comes to time – you either spend it or invest it.

So approach learning as a lifetime opportunity and approach weight loss as a long journey. Take care of the small steps and the big steps will take care of themselves. Some of these small victories and moments to celebrate and shower yourself with praise include the following:

The moment you invest in a new program. Just the fact that you took the step to start is more than most people. As the old saying goes, half life is just showing up.

The moment you change some behavior. It doesn’t matter if it’s a change in eating habits, buying better groceries, or a new activity like walking. This change in behavior is something you want to reinforce, so invest heavily in the reward when you initiate the changes.

The moment you go public. The Bible talks about the need to proclaim Jesus as your Savior in front of others. The same goes for weight loss. If you are truly committed to your goals, then announce your plans to those close to you. If they are truly on your team, they will work to support you, not sabotage you. If you don’t trust any of the people in your inner circle or feel that there is a risk of sabotage or empowerment, then you need to rethink that person or people in your inner circle.

So get an exciting vision of your future self. Be clear about what you are trying to achieve. And keep that vision at the center of your attention. It will give you inspiration and motivation to overcome difficult times. And be sure to reward yourself as you go along.
