Adrenal Fatigue: How it Affects Your Life and How to Heal it

80% of the American population is affected by adrenal fatigue at some point in their lives, but most are unaware of the problem. They simply know they are not feeling well, or perhaps the symptoms lead them to investigate other disorders; we know that often symptoms indicate multiple possibilities and sometimes overlapping disorders. Are these symptoms affecting you?

♠ You’re gaining weight, especially around your waist or stomach, and it’s stubbornly clinging to you

♠ Fatigue ~ lack of energy ~ lethargy

♠ Insomnia

♠ Brain fog ~ difficulty concentrating

♠ Morning sluggishness ~ the need for stimulants to get you moving

♠ Constipation

♠ Nervousness ~ anxiety

♠ Mild depression

♠ Dry skin and hair

♠ Arthritis

♠ Pain in upper back and neck

♠ Unexplained hair loss

♠ Cold hands and feet ~ or just plain cold

♠ Allergies ~ volatile substances and foods

♠ Low body temperature

♠ Decreased desire for sex

If you said yes to several of these symptoms, it is very likely that you are experiencing adrenal fatigue. If you said yes to half or more, your adrenals are tired.

What is Adrenal Fatigue?

Adrenal fatigue is simply the contribution of stressors to affect and possibly take control of your life. Stress is a big problem in most people’s lives and all too often one has no idea how to deal with stress. The result is adrenal fatigue and many other imbalances in the individual’s body, mind and spirit. Stress has many faces, e.g.

Anger ~ fear ~ guilt

Lack of sleep ~ chronic fatigue

Chronic disease

Chronic infection

Too much exercise

Wrong diet

Gluten intolerance

Worry ~ anxiety ~ constant focus on negative aspects and events

Exposure to large amounts of toxins

Excess sugar

Digestive imbalance

What happens when your body gets stressed?

Your adrenal glands are located directly above your kidneys, which are located in your back just above your waist. This small gland houses the most abundant hormone in your body – DHEA. Cortisol (often referred to as the death hormone) is also found in your adrenal glands. The main purpose of the adrenal glands is to be a stress regulator. Here is an example.

You are driving down the road and someone stops in front of you. You slam on the brakes, maybe say a few choice words, and are thankful you avoided an accident. In the meantime, you probably stopped breathing for a moment, or at the very least, you were just breathing rapidly. Your heart probably raced and felt like it was going to jump out of your chest and maybe even make your head pound. What you probably don’t know is that your cortisol has also shot up to meet the demands placed on your adrenal glands. This is what we call escape and escape, and it is beneficial when something like this happens. However, when our lives become an atmosphere of constant fight and flight, we can easily develop adrenal fatigue. Adrenal glands that kick in due to sudden trauma are supposed to be temporary. Of the already mentioned stressors, it is usually a combination of different stressors that create this syndrome for you.

As a result of the constant stress on your body, your cortisol stays elevated and that’s how the symptoms start. It’s very likely that your DHEA is dropping at the same time, and if you’re 40 or older, this happens naturally. We know that hormones decline with age, but if we are stressed, they decline faster. All this not only destroys your health, but also makes you age faster both internally and externally. And who wants to age faster!

As a result of adrenal fatigue, most individuals turn to stimulants to get them going and keep them going – coffee, sodas, pills, alcohol, chocolate, nicotine, etc. They mask their problem and unbeknownst to them it keeps getting worse. covering up.

Here is the meaning of cortisol.

Normalizes Blood Sugar ~ When a stressor occurs, cortisol increases your body’s blood sugar and works with your pancreas to provide enough glucose to fuel your cells. Persistently elevated blood sugar creates a blood sugar imbalance that can lead to numerous physical disorders such as diabetes.

Anti-inflammatory ~ Cortisol is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. When trauma occurs to our bodies, cortisol is released to reduce swelling and repair the injury. Too much trauma produces too much cortisol. There are many disorders associated with inflammation such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis.

Immune System Support ~ Cortisol affects most of the cells involved in regulating your immune system. Chronically high levels of cortisol suppress the immune system, making the individual more susceptible to illness, especially viruses.

Stress Balancing ~ Cortisol helps balance your stress responses, but if stress becomes chronic, then it can no longer maintain balance. The result can be hard-to-reduce weight gain, high blood pressure, estrogen dominance that can lead to uterine fibroids and even breast cancer, and much more.

So you can see how easy it is to find yourself in bouts of adrenal fatigue while still suspecting other disorders. I personally believe, as do many doctors, that it is essential to fix your adrenals no matter what disease or disorder you have because the adrenals will always be affected if there is an imbalance anywhere in your body.

Steps to fix your adrenals

1. Understand it first. Conventional medicine testing cannot detect adrenal fatigue unless it has become severe. That’s why so many doctors tell their patients—and you may have been one of them—to go home and rest or give them a prescription drug to help. This is simply a band-aid approach and does little, if anything, and certainly will not cure the problem.

2. However, there is a saliva test used by holistic practitioners and doctors that has excellent results in measuring cortisol and DHEA levels. It’s called the ASI, or Adrenal Stress Index. Although nothing is ever 100% accurate, this has a very high accuracy. This is because your saliva is part of your tissues and can relate to lab technicians what is being absorbed into your body as well as your hormone levels.

3. Realize that all physical disorders have an emotional core. You may be able to “fix”

your adrenal problem temporarily by making some lifestyle changes, but if you don’t release the negative emotions underlying your stress, they will simply return, perhaps in a different form. We are multidimensional beings and it requires balance in all four areas to be healthy. A single tire on a car can cause significant imbalance if it loses enough air. It’s the same with your body and health.

4. Eliminate stressors. You might be laughing right now thinking that I don’t know what your life is like and what you’re going through. You might be surprised how much I understand you. And yes, you can successfully become stress-free. You see, I am recovering from adrenal fatigue and have had it for decades but didn’t know it. I gave birth to and raised five children, I worked all those years, I was driven to succeed in my work, I started having major health problems, I got divorced, I experienced major financial problems for several years, I found myself in a potentially destructive business deal, from which I am finally disconnected and so on. We all have our stories, but you don’t have to stay in them. I let go of my old story and created a life free of stress and its effects on me. You can do it too! The key is how you respond to stressors. To learn more about how to live a stress-free life, click on my website on the home page and order my free e-book, Stress-Free Living. There are many other products and services listed on my site that may also help you.

5. Get enough sleep! This can be a real problem for many people. So many people come to our health store asking for something to help them sleep. It is often accompanied by insomnia

Adrenal fatigue is still the most necessary to remedy. It takes 7-8 hours or more to heal and the adrenals repair most often from 11pm to 1am. (some say the fix starts at 10pm) So that means you night owls might have to make some changes. I had to do it too. Melatonin, 5HTP, herbs, magnesium, warm baths, reading before you retire, working with a coach to learn new ways to respond to stress, listening to soft music are all possible to help you sleep. Cleansing the liver and digesting food well is also essential for good sleep. Instructions for doing so are provided below.

6. Change your diet. To enable adrenal repair, follow these steps:

♦ Cut out sugar, caffeine and alcohol – these fight against adrenal repair

♦ Consider adding salt to your diet – but only the Himalayan or Celtic types

♦ Eat lots of organic vegetables, at least 6 every day

♦ Consider juicing vegetables a few times a week to cleanse your body

♦ Every morning drink 1 cup of warm water on an empty stomach with ½ bio

lemon squeezed in it – cleans the liver easily and naturally

♦ Exercise, but only moderately at first. The rule of thumb is to stop if you are tired.

♦ Eat regularly, at least three meals a day – 5-6 small meals can help

♦ Eat plenty of good quality protein, as the amino acids in protein help restore the adrenal glands

♦ Progesterone cream – supports healthy adrenal glands and thyroid gland, helps

balance estrogen overload

♦ Supplementation – This is an individualized process – there is no single protocol that works for everyone, and what works for one person may be toxic for another. Below are some suggestions, but do your own research and seek the help of the qualified

practitioners for your repair process.

Note: When your adrenals are tired, sugar is an instant craving, but ironically, it’s the worst thing you could be consuming because it increases adrenal fatigue. Individuals who crave sugar or carbohydrates often find that the root cause of their cravings is adrenal fatigue.

Adrenals will be better served with organic vegetables, the darker and lighter the better, plenty of quality protein to ensure enough amino acids, plenty of water and the inclusion of beneficial oils such as refined organic extra virgin coconut oil. This type of coconut oil can actually cause weight loss and provide the good fats necessary to convert ALL the hormones in your body.

A Supplement That Can Support Adrenal Repair:

♦ Vitamin C and bioflavonoids – 1000 mg to 5000

mg daily, divided doses

♦ B-5, pantothenic acid or panethine gelcaps – 1000 – 1500 mg daily, divided

♦ Vitamin E, mixture of tocopherols – 400 iu

daily, one gelcap

♦ Magnesium – citrate good form, 500 mg or

more daily, powder form good

♦ Natural Progesterone Cream – Men can do it too

It may also be beneficial to:

♦ B complex, 50 – 100 mg twice a day

♦ Multivitamin/mineral – once a day

♦ Antioxidants

♦ DHEA – be careful with this one

women, because only a little is enough to help

♦ Natural hydrocortisone – caution here as

ok – prescription only

Other suggestions:

As most individuals with adrenal fatigue have impaired digestion, it is vital that they are able to properly digest food and supplement their intake and have a good balance of gut flora. You may want to include the following in your daily diet to help with adrenal recovery:

♦ Probiotics – 2-3 times a day

♦ Digestive enzymes – with every meal

♦ Consumption of raw fermented vegetables – daily

Note: Often less is better, at least to start with. If your body is not functioning optimally, it may be necessary to introduce supplements and changes gradually so as not to “shock” and overload the body. Of course, in the event of a serious illness, it is often beneficial to feed the body quickly to detoxify and ensure recovery. Baby steps are best, and know that it takes time for your adrenals to recover, anywhere from 3 months to two years, depending on the severity of your adrenal fatigue.
