There are many pleasures associated with these snacking experiences, and most of us are reluctant to give them up. But if we can bring ourselves to substitute some simple recipes for healthy food and snacks, we can train our mental and physical taste buds to crave them, and a new association for pleasure will form around a new healthy food choice or recipe.

If you don’t want to give your taste buds such a jolt right out of the gate, you can make it a two-step process in some cases. For example, when a seemingly uncontrollable craving for chocolate ice cream hits, have a cup of coffee or a glass of Chocolate Ovaltine and milk instead. Ovaltine is not like the unhealthy chocolate milk formulas offered to children. Think of it as a healthy fast food snack instead. It contains vitamins and minerals, and not too much sugar if you use one or two tablespoons instead of the recommended four.

Step Two: Buy a good chocolate flavored whey protein blend (or flavor of your choice) from your local health food supplier and use that instead of the Ovaltine. These protein supplements aren’t what they used to be. In the past, they would NOT mix without a blender and would taste pretty bad. Not anymore. They mix quickly by just stirring or shaking and the flavors are pretty good. Believe me.

Now you’ve turned fatty and sugary ice cream into a healthy fast food option: a protein supplement! Plus, it’s far more fulfilling and satisfying. You won’t be tempted to eat anything as quickly as if you gave in and ate ice cream.

Think it won’t work? Well, I can personally vouch for that and tests done on regular regular people like us have proven the same. It actually worked by using very bland but healthy meal recipes and snack replacements in just one week instead of the usual tasty treats. People actually craved bland tasting healthy snacks over their old unhealthy treats.
