I was stressed, but not stressed, because he committed to a 12-month SEO marketing campaign. I wasted no time getting him on track. It all started with my top 5 search engine and marketing tips.

The short version of the story is that the startup went from $0 to $7M in revenue per month in 9 months. The first 30 days were focused on building the foundation and optimizing his website. After reviewing his original plans, it became clear that search engine marketing was essential. My five steps to search engine marketing lay the foundation. Here are the main search engine ranking tips that can help fast-track any business’ internet marketing success.

1. Lay a good foundation. Use a proven keyword search tool such as those provided by Google or Yahoo. Once your keyword choices are producing results, go for quality over quantity. For example, if your business is related to credit cards, search for combinations such as credit card services, eligible credit cards, credit card sources, etc. This starts to bring up hundreds of options. Choose keywords with high and low popularity rankings and incorporate them into your marketing materials. It’s a proven formula that brings traffic waves to your door.

2. Once traffic starts to build, test a few versions of your marketing material. Don’t skimp on the time, money and sweat you have to put into testing. Focus on your graphics, colors, fonts, wording, spelling, and more.

A side note about a recent test. One client increased her conversion rate by 20% by deliberately misspelling four words in different parts of the material. She didn’t put all the words on the same page and only tested for a misspelling on the home page. The point is to test test test and not be afraid to take risks. Your focus here is to find the right combination of SEO and the results generated through the various methods you try.

Simple blogs take about 20 minutes to start and about an hour or less per week to maintain…unless you’re serious. The benefit is reputation. Let’s face it. You are an expert on your business and your service or product. No one knows it like you do. In fact, no one knows you as well as you know yourself.
