There are so many diets that come and go in popularity. People swear by one and downplay the other. A new popular diet book comes out every month or so with some new combination of foods guaranteed to slim you down. People who have been trying to lose weight for years often get into a rut, lose weight, and within a year most of the weight comes back.

This is an old story familiar to most of us. What can be done to get rid of this constant yo yo syndrome?

Most people eat what they want most of the time, and are careful and eat healthy foods a small percentage of the time. People who are slim and trim eat healthily by keeping fat and calories in mind most of the time, and have treats a small percentage of the time. One of the main reasons to make healthy choices is that the food you choose is not addictive or makes you want to eat more. You’ll likely eat healthy salads, low-fat protein options, and stop before you feel full. When you eat cakes, candies, fast food you will eat more and more until you are full. As for sugar, it has addictive properties, which causes excessive consumption. Often the addiction continues into the next day. I personally have woken up the next day after something very sweet and I want more sugar.

Vegetables are probably your best option for maintaining your weight and getting plenty of vitamins and minerals. This contributes to good nutrition and ensures your health. Their availability and cut makes it very easy to make this wise choice.

I personally had put on quite a bit of weight when I got back from college. My mother put me on a diet and took me to the gym. I lost fifteen pounds by promising myself not to gain it back. I thought dieting was absolute torture. I actually gained weight twice having two babies. I kept the promise to myself and still wear the same size as when I was 18. What keeps me thin? It’s still the thought of dieting again that keeps me in line.

After all these years I don’t even need to step on a scale as I know how much I can eat without gaining weight. If I’ve been exercising a lot, I know I can eat almost anything I want. If it was a non-exercise day, I cut it out. The thought of going shopping and buying plus size clothes doesn’t appeal to me. It’s really about your personal commitment and desire to look good in your clothes and be healthy. So look in the mirror and make the decision to either lose some weight or stay the same. Try to stop searching for the perfect diet and start making wise food choices. Eat only when you are hungry.

My reward for staying slim is new clothes and knowing I’m wearing the same size I’ve always worn. I always praise myself for staying groomed and that deserves a new outfit. I feel very proud that he has passed the baby boomer era.

Nothing is as good as the feeling of being skinny.
