Bodyweight Training – The Feared 8 Count Bodybuilders

Why are so many people afraid of the dreaded eight-time bodybuilder? Because it’s a brutal bodyweight exercise used by Elite Navy Seals in the military.

I have read and purchased many books on military training from all branches of the military. The Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines all point to the 8 count body builder as one of the exercises that helps them get in great shape.

But one book in the Navy Seal training manual talks about how they would have to do 1×100 of this brutal exercise every Friday. And how the Seals hated it, I read that many years ago when I was transitioning from bodyweight training.

I thought how hard could it be? The first time I did it, I managed 60 of these bodybuilders and thought I would never do them again. But by no means did it happen. I was on my own mission to do 100 in 10 minutes and I accomplished it.

What made me want to learn more about them and the fact that the author of the book left out the dreaded 8 counts from the exercise section because they are brutal. I liked that. If he skipped it because he hated them, I wanted to make them.

It’s been many years and I’m still doing them and it’s still a feat to do 100 in less than 10 minutes. My best was 600 in 1 hour and 100 in under 15 minutes in a 40lb weight vest.

These are challenging workouts and you will work your body through the exercises. I combined 8 counts with body weight squats and also used a combination with bodybuilders and a jump rope, both of which are amazing fat burning and strength building workouts.

If you’ve just mastered 50 of these beasts, the average person wouldn’t be the average person who’s a little skeptical of some now and see how many you can get in 1 minute or 2 minutes, I think you’ll be surprised.

The only downside is that most people will never do them as a regular part of their training, and the reason is that they are very challenging. You can be like everyone else and exercise like everyone else; you know the workouts designed by the average man for the average man.
