Should You Buy The Weslo Cadence C44 Treadmill?
Weslo treadmills are inexpensive machines. If anyone should buy a Weslo machine, it should be a light, casual electric walker. If you are not, you should not buy the Weslo Cadence C44 Treadmill.
The Weslo Cadence C44 Treadmill is one of Weslo’s mid-priced machines and retails for around $400. Weslo claims it comes with “a great cardio workout with weight loss benefits.” It is also assumed that it will handle not only pedestrians, but also those who want to run.
The Cadence C44 treadmill motor is a 2.25 THP motor with a 1.3 CHP Impulse Drive System. But what does THP actually mean? It means peak power (or total power), but it’s a useless performance measurement for treadmills. The “real” power output of the Weslo Cadence C44 will be somewhere between 1 and 1.25 horsepower. The engine size is small; my coffee mug is bigger.
Although Weslo claims the C44 has a maximum user capacity of 250 pounds, it’s likely to be about 200 pounds or less. In fact, using the maximum incline of 9%, the maximum weight it can handle drops further to around 150 pounds, the absolute maximum.
It is also claimed that the motor can reach a speed of 10 mph. There is no way this motor will support the stated max weight of 250lbs on a max grade of 9% at 10mph. At least there is no chance of the user dying of heart failure during training; the machine has long since tipped over.
And what warranty do you get with the Weslo Cadence C44 Treadmill? You get a crappy 1 year warranty on the engine, that’s it. Almost every quality treadmill has a 5 or 10 year warranty on the motor. A bad warranty really highlights the faith a manufacturer has in their product.
With any decent use, the engine is more than likely to give up the ghost. I have no idea what the cost would be to repair and replace the motor on this Weslo treadmill, but I suspect it won’t be cheap.
The most important part of any treadmill is the motor; whatever model you buy, make sure the motor is up to the job.
Should you buy the Weslo Cadence C44? Personally, I’d keep my $400 and go for long walks instead. But if you are really looking to buy a cheap treadmill and like the idea of buying a Weslo, you should keep these points in mind before buying the C44 Cadence; you should walk, never run; you should weigh no more than 150 pounds; and you should use it occasionally; and you should only use it for a short period of time.
Maybe my C44 review seemed a little harsh, but $400 is still a lot of money. I don’t want to see anyone waste money on something that won’t bring any benefits. My overall rating for this Weslo treadmill is 0 out of 5.
