Women – Fat and Weight Loss

For the vast majority of women, issues related to fat and weight control have always been very important. Most eat and exercise to maintain a healthy weight. While some women find that staying fit comes naturally and don’t have to work hard, others find it quite difficult to shed a few unwanted pounds, especially as they age.

Body perception, sexuality and self-image are generally intricately linked for women. However, most women’s ideas about their own bodies, as well as the perceptions of those whose bodies they love, have mostly been negatively influenced by various social and marketing influences. Basically, the media today wants women to have the bodies of pubescent girls who are slim, toned, have elongated hips, curves, whose breasts must be appropriately plump and youthful with visible musculature. That’s a very high ask, to say the least, considering the age factor and the challenges of female hormones.

Sexual empowerment for both men and women begins with high self-esteem and a positive body image. When a woman is comfortable with her appearance, size and shape, she is naturally more attuned to her senses and her sexuality takes on a whole new meaning and she is more willing to have sex, try new positions, ideas and sexual techniques. However, it is disheartening how much women today are betting their happiness, future and/or sexuality on some imaginary weight loss or other such personal physical “improvement”.

It’s also interesting to note that while the anger most women feel about society’s pressure to have perfect bodies is understandable, most women’s appearance is not only more closely scrutinized by other women, but often unfairly criticized by women themselves. The problem is that most women can’t help but compare themselves. It can probably be said that most women dress for other women – although they dress to please men – the most important thing for them is what other women say. Men may be more easily complimented, but that’s hardly the case with women – who are constantly competing with each other to win the supposed “Miss Fit” competition. In fact, women are much more critical of their body shape and weight than men are.

Why do women gain more weight than men? A woman’s lifestyle (imbalanced diet and lack of exercise) and her female hormones are big culprits when it comes to excess fat in women. Women seem to pay a much higher social price for their excess fat, while fat men somehow “get away” with it. Most fat men get fat from eating too much, but this is not always the case for women. Male hormones naturally keep muscle mass high and fat low, but the opposite seems to be true for female hormones.

Food consists of calories or units of energy. Physical activity and normal body metabolism burn calories. When a person takes in more calories than the body uses, the extra calories are stored as fat. These fat cells grow or shrink depending on the energy balance in the body. Female hormone metabolic pathways promote the reduction of calories used to generate body heat and increase body fat storage by increasing the use of calories to generate fat. In general, women’s metabolisms tend to convert more calories into fat, while men tend to produce more heat from calories. So women get fat more easily than men and it is harder for them to lose fat.

Most women are actually the right size but are unhappy with their shape because they compare themselves to women in the media. However, sometimes weight becomes a real problem physically, medically, emotionally and/or psychologically. A woman who carries many extra pounds has more of a burden than a literal scale because she will be inclined to measure herself first before any personal success – viewing her weight as a primary personal failure.

In fact, women should take a more retrospective look at their lifestyles and the demands placed on them by most media. The thing is, much of women’s frustration with body fat is a mistake. The desire for those super skinny female celebrities in magazines is based on a misconception. Even a fit and healthy woman would find it difficult to achieve the body of these young celebrities. When the challenges of pregnancy, motherhood, full-time career, menopause and aging are factored into the life of the average woman, these overrated media hyped models should really fade into oblivion. Women simply set unattainable goals for themselves.

As women become more confident and positive about their bodies, they soon begin to realize how sexy they really are and can be. The truth is that every woman definitely has some positive features on her body – be it her cute feet, heavy breasts, long eyelashes, super shiny hair or amazing curves. Every woman is unique, and while they may be busy looking down on some of your features, there are others who wish they had them. Therefore, it is best to be yourself, inside and out, and be proud of your physical qualities, strengthen and emphasize them, because they are part of your overall sexuality.

However, it is not a matter of not respecting healthy standards. Being overweight can increase a woman’s risk of heart disease, breast cancer and diabetes. It can also complicate pregnancy and can even make it difficult to get pregnant. Long-term studies suggest that the overall risk of developing chronic disease is generally related to body mass index (BMI) as follows: BMI below 20 (may be associated with health problems in some women – eg anaemia, eating disorders, increased susceptibility to infection); BMI 20-25 (risk is very low – healthy weight); BMI 25-26.9 (risk starts to increase – caution zone: overweight); BMI 27-29.9 (medium risk – overweight); BMI 30+ (high risk – obesity).

Your health risk depends only partly on weight, as there are other risk factors such as poor diet, alcohol, lack of exercise, smoking, high blood pressure and of course female hormones that play an important role. However, some women, in their desperate attempt to lose fat, resort to fasting or strange, unbalanced diet tricks that only make the problem worse.

There are many positive actions a woman can take to feel better about her weight, as taking good care of her body will help her feel more attractive. If you feel your BMI needs some reduction, especially for health reasons, a healthy and balanced diet to get rid of excess fat is a good start, and women should generally eat as much healthy food as possible. Also, routine aerobic exercise to improve the body’s ability to burn fat will help reap the rewards of a healthier, happier and better sex life.

Emotional health is the key to being beautiful. Therefore, self-confidence and self-responsibility are essential requirements if you want to establish and maintain weight control, a healthy exercise regimen, or any other physical routine. By starting with a healthy, balanced diet and adding an exercise routine, you’ll feel good about taking positive steps toward a leaner, stronger, and overall healthier body—all while feeling better about showing it off.

However, women should be optimistic but realistic about their prospects for losing excess weight, because the fatter a woman is, the less able her body is to release fat from fat cells; preventing calories from entering fat cells and burning fat for calories. As a result, the fatter it is, the less fat it can shed. The fatter and more out of shape a woman is, the slower fat loss occurs. They say prevention is better than cure.

Whether you are slim, petite, muscular, thin or chubby, your body type is part of your sexuality. So start with a healthy balanced diet and exercise routine because the sexiest women are the ones who are most comfortable in their own skin.
