1) Always log the food you eat. It might sound silly, but unless you keep a daily calorie count on paper, you won’t realize where you might be going wrong. It’s also a great way to make yourself guilty. If you’re black and white, you’re less likely to laugh at that brioche when the evidence is in front of you!

2) Eat 4-6 times a day. Fat loss and weight loss is all about keeping your metabolism high. The more you eat, the more often your metabolism will be boosted to burn off those extra pounds. Of course, this doesn’t mean you should eat 4-6 large meals a day. You might want to eat half a sandwich and a piece of fruit at 11am and the other half with low-fat yogurt at 1:30pm!

3) Be realistic about what you expect to achieve. By trying to achieve an unlikely goal, you are only setting yourself up for failure. Eating a slice of salad 5 times a day, 7 days a week, is humanly impossible. Also, starvation eating just makes your metabolic rate drop, which stops the fat burning process. The most important aspect of any good diet is that you should never feel hungry!

4) Apply the 90-10 rule. Eat right 90% of the time and stick to your diet. The other 10% should be a treat. This could mean eating your favorite meal once a week, or eating out at a restaurant. As long as you stick to this percentage, you’ll continue to boost your metabolism, stay motivated, and you’ll be more likely to keep losing weight until you reach your goal.

5) One of the main dieting tips for healthy weight loss is getting rid of bad foods in your kitchen. If there is no temptation, then you are less likely to get lost. Treat those calorie-dense foods like a personal reminder of an ex-boyfriend/girlfriend who treated you badly. Going through them, burning them, just makes your kitchen a bad food no-go zone!

6) Control the amount of alcohol you drink. Well, I’m not saying you have to be teetotal, but you’d be surprised at the calorie content of alcohol. Try cutting back on your alcohol intake, sticking to clear spirits, wine or low-calorie beer if you can.

7) My final weight loss dieting tip is for when you are out and about for certain social events/parties. It’s easy to get lost here. Buffets with all your favorite foods, flowing alcohol, and a chance to undo all your hard work! Yes, you should be enjoying yourself and don’t let calorie counting take over your life! So stick to protein-rich foods from the buffet. Chicken, fish and eggs. Avoid bread and anything dipped in mayonnaise. Stick to the drinks I mentioned above to make sure you’re totally insane on the dance floor!
