What Are Lean and Green Meals in the Medifast Diet?
I’ve been on this diet for quite some time now and I often write about my experiences with it. Someone emailed me the other day and asked, “What is the lean and green food for the Medifast diet?” I will answer this question in the following article.
Definition of lean and green: When you follow the medifast diet, you eat six times a day. Five times a day you eat food that is supplied by the company. These are packaged foods that do not require much preparation. Examples are shakes, bars, chili, stews, oatmeal, eggs, soups, cappuccino, hot chocolate, chips, and fruit drinks.
But once a day you prepare a bigger and heartier meal yourself. This food is called “lean and green food”. And it gets its name from the fact that it consists of lean proteins and vegetables. (This is a simplified version. Some people are very complicated with this.) You can have this meal at any time of the day. I usually have it for dinner, but sometimes I’ll have it around three in the afternoon if I know I’ll be busy (and tempted) later.
Examples of medium-fast lean and green food: Many people don’t realize how much food there is honest game. The company even allows you to get it at a restaurant if you follow the guidelines – which is basically 5-7 ounces of lean meat or protein (chicken, turkey, beef, fish, lobster, lamb, veil, eggs, veggie patties, veggie TVP, etc. ) and any three servings from the approved vegetarian list. Society divides vegetables into those that are higher and lower on the glycemic scale. We recommend you stick to things that are on the low side, but most things are remote.
Examples of approved vegetables are tomatoes, green beans, lettuce, cucumbers, mushrooms, eggplant, squash and peppers to name a few.
I don’t like to cook much, so I usually get my vegetables from bagged salads and fry them. But many people make these lean and green meals very elaborate. There are tons of recipes. (Soups and stir-fries are great ways to incorporate all your veggies and lean meat into one easy meal.)
In restaurants, any form of lean meat with some vegetables is perfectly fine. I don’t avoid restaurants on this diet, and if I occasionally have pasta or bread in a restaurant, I don’t beat myself up. I think I’m fine. Do the best you can, knowing that if you diet most of the time, you will consume fewer calories than usual and lose weight.
