Fly Fishing Tackle Review: The Greys GS2 Fly Fishing Rod
For me, there is nothing better than standing in a rushing stream on a crisp, cool morning and throwing my bait into the rushing water. Becoming a successful fly fisherman takes a lot of skill, but it also requires the right fly fishing tackle. Your fishing rod is especially important and should be chosen carefully. Here’s some info on one of my favorite fly rods, the Grays GS2.
About Grays GS2 Fly Rods
The Grays GS2 rod is an alternative to the company’s popular G-Series. Replacing such an iconic rod wasn’t easy for Grace, but I think they’ve had admirable success. I found that the GS2 has features usually found on more expensive fly rods, such as premium cork components and a durable composite handle. Another attractive feature is the pole’s portability. It breaks down easily into four manageable sections, making it super easy to transport.
Features of the Grays GS2 Fly Rod
The GS2 line has been expanded to include saltwater models, so there will be a rod for just about every angler. The GS2 has easy-to-see alignment markings to aid in proper assembly. It also comes with a PVC pipe and cloth bag, both ideal for storage and transport. If you know a friend or family member who would like to be introduced to fly fishing, the GS2 makes a great gift because it works in a variety of fishing places and situations. The rod has a very balanced mid-tip action that beginners will find easy to control. The term “action” refers to how well the rod responds to bending forces, also known as the bend curve. Another aspect of rod action is how quickly the rod returns to its neutral or unbent position. The mid-tip action of the GS2 stem means it flexes more in the middle than the tip or tail. But keep in mind that the power and action of a given rod may vary depending on whether the line weight is greater or less than the rod’s “official” rating.
More About GS2 Fly Rods
Another feature I like about the GS2 is the corrosion resistant reel mount, which is especially good for saltwater fishing. The rod also comes with a single-line rating, allowing even beginners to get the most out of the GS2. As a quick note, fly rods are generally classified according to the maximum weight of line that can be used with them. For those who don’t know, fishing line is classified by the number of pounds of tensile strength it can hold before breaking. Line weights are usually expressed in a range, for example, 8 to 15 lbs of line are commonly used on many swivel and cast rods.
All in all, I found the Grays GS2 rod to be an excellent fly fishing tackle and I use it a lot.
