Lost Your Pet – To Do List
Listening to my brother-in-law’s voicemail on our mobile phone, my stomach sank and my mouth felt parched. We just got back from a wonderful morning hiking in the California desert with some good friends. After the hike, we indulged in some delicious Mexican food, including fresh salsa, real guacamole, and some cold beer.
Right now, I’m hearing the news that our 11 year old black lab has been missing for 24 hours!
My heart sank. We spent Christmas and New Years in California with friends. She lives in the comfort of her Calgary home with her favorite dog walkers. She’s a dog, a beloved dog enjoying the good life. What prompted her to sneak out the back door one sunny afternoon, the day after Christmas, we’ll never know. She is a purebred Labrador driven by her stomach and her love for people. So it’s possible she left in search of Christmas leftovers.
Our story has a happy ending, and she made it home safe and sound. However, those 72 hours were hell for everyone involved. Our wonderful nanny and my brother-in-law worked tirelessly to find her. They walked many miles on their feet and spent hours driving. By then, we’ve gotten the call and they’ve done pretty much everything you’d recommend when you’ve lost your pet.
Pet lovers understand that dogs and cats are indeed part of the family fabric. Losing a pet can be just as devastating and devastating as losing a loved one. We’ve had sleepless nights and spent hundreds of dollars in roaming charges on our phones.
Now that our family is back to normal, I thought I’d share this list so others may have guidance if they find themselves in a similar situation. This list is not an official list of the City of Calgary, but we hope it helps others find their dogs and other lost animals.
