When you eat sugar, a process called “glycation” occurs. Glycation tissue is tough and inflexible, causing wrinkling not only of the skin but also of vital internal organs. This process happens because we all have proteins and sugars circulating in our bodies. When sugar and protein combine, a chemical reaction occurs that produces a class of molecules known as “advanced glycation end products” (AGEs). And it’s not just white sugar. There are many different types of sugar to look out for, such as: brown sugar, fructose, honey, maple syrup, high fructose corn syrup, and anything that ends in “sugar” such as glucose, lactose, dextrose, etc.
