Do it Yourself – Build a Trailer
Planning a long trip across the country and need a way to transport all the things you’ll need? Are you moving and need a way to move furniture and other items? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then the trailer is definitely the solution to your dilemma. It is a good plan to invest in a trailer. in fact, once you own a trailer, you begin to find many uses for your trailer that you never imagined. A trailer is a non-motorized space with wheels that is attached to a vehicle for the purpose of towing whatever you need to tow. It really is a box on wheels. They can successfully carry a large amount of cargo at once and can be either enclosed or uncovered. Below are instructions on how to build your own trailer.
Materials needed:
Sheet metal sheets
Assembling the axle
Wheel assembly
Language
Ratchet
1″ x 4″ boards.
Angle iron
Screws
Tools needed:
Drill
Screwdriver
Handsaw
Tape measure
Pencil
Metal scissors
Welder
Instructions:
1. First choose what type of trailer you need and what size. Use a tape measure and measure the desired size to estimate the amount of materials you will need. You should frame your trailer using angle brackets, which should be cut and welded to make the frame.
2. Next, draw a plan on the sheet metal with a pencil, which should be derived from your earlier measurements. Using metal scissors, cut out the plans you drew on the sheet metal.
3. Weld the parts together, making sure there are no gaps between them.
4. Install the axle. It should be located in the middle of the wheels. Where you mount the axle on the trailer depends on how you want the trailer to perform. If you want it to tip backwards, then the axle must be located close to the center of gravity.
5. Mount the wheels on the axle.
6. The tongue must now be attached to the trailer. Includes handwheel, clutch and latch. Turn the trailer upside down and use a welder to firmly weld the coupling to the trailer body. Similarly, weld the tongue beams.
7. Attach a latch to the trailer frame to help you connect the trailer to another vehicle for transport.
8. Take your tape measure and measure two 35″ x 18″ pieces of sheet metal and cut with metal scissors. Take each sheet and measure 4″ from one end and make a mark there on both sides. Weld the front spring hinge to the front of the overhang.
9. Next, measure 6″ from the free end and mark again. Bend the sheet at this point and it will be welded in a specific spot to the back of the overhang.
10. To make the trailer floor, measure the length of the trailer and cut the boards to size with a handsaw. Below, mark where each board meets the iron of the trailer frame and make a pencil mark on each board. Also list on the iron. Use a drill to make holes in both the iron and the board, then use a screwdriver and long screws to secure the position.
Tips:
Paint the trailer to make it more attractive.
The weight of the tongue is the amount of force generated by the trailer. To determine the weight of the tongue, evaluate the total weight of the trailer. 5% of the result is the weight of the language.
