Mistake #1: often not enough
When you don’t eat often enough, your body goes into starvation mode. What then happens is that the body begins to retain excess fat. This is done because body fat is a quick and easy source of energy when you are hungry. This worked well hundreds of years ago, but not so much now for those who aren’t afraid to starve to death.
The best you can do is eat 4-5 small meals…or 3 small meals and 3 healthy snacks.
Mistake #2: Countless hours dedicated to cardio
Prolonged, steady-state, low-intensity cardio is not good for weight loss, or if you’re trying to lose belly fat. It’s very catabolic. This means it eats away at the fibers in your muscle tissue. Since each pound of muscle burns 30-50 more calories per day than a pound of fat, you inadvertently slow down your metabolism and burn fewer calories.
Instead, do short bursts of high-intensity interval training. To do this, simply perform any aerobic exercise “all out”. Do this for about 10 seconds. Afterwards, slow down and do low-intensity exercises on the machine for about 20 seconds. Then continue to repeat the cycle for at least 5 minutes.
25 minutes of this will help you create an “afterburn.” That’s what it is… You’ll burn body fat for 18 hours or more after completing this routine. You don’t get that afterburn with slow, steady-state cardio like jogging at the same pace for 20 minutes on a treadmill.
Mistake #3: Not getting enough fiber in your diet
The average woman should consume at least 35 grams of fiber per day. The average American gets about 12 grams of fiber per day. It just didn’t cut it. Fiber cleans your system and improves the efficiency of your digestive system, which eliminates waste and toxins. This will obviously speed up your weight loss.
The easiest way to get 35 grams or more of fiber per day is to eat 1 can of black beans per day. Each 15-ounce can contains about 25 grams of fiber. It’s only 48 cents at Walmart.
