Putting laser-focused minds at ease Developing a good exercise routine isn’t as hard as it looks. You’ll see guys who can go to the weight room and lift weights all day every day without looking the other way. Let me tell you a funny story about myself and how I overcame that “fandom” syndrome where you admire other people who work in the weight room and you’re supposed to be that person.
So I was about a 20-year-old college student in the weight room, very small and scrawny. I see these guys enter the weight room with laser focus. I’m not talking about people who are obviously on steroids, just want everyone to see how great their muscles are. I’m talking about real hard workers. They’ll come in, have a snack, and get to work without looking at another person or staring in a mirror and doing nothing (I feel guilty about that).
These guys are absolutely amazing at this, they just come in, start with their upper body, do some incline bench presses, flat bench presses, switch to dumbbells, do some triceps, some dumbbell flyes, dumbbell presses. The next day, they do leg presses, squats and all – after which they fill their bodies with nutrients and protein – usually a whey protein shake.
I often ask how they do this consistently and on a regular basis. The man who was about 35 years old said to me, I just did it. When he first started going, he would start by making sure he was eating right, saying, “When you’re eating right, you don’t want to waste all the good nutrition and just sit back. Also, when you’re eating a lot of complex carbs When you have a lot of stored energy, you don’t want to waste it.” He includes complex carbohydrates at every meal, including potatoes, oatmeal, pasta, whole grain bread, and more.
“The most difficult thing is to start”, he also said, you just want to come in, don’t think about it, as long as you have a plan in advance, you will know what to do when you come in. The more you do it, the easier it becomes.
