New Study Provides Irrefutable Evidence That Excess Weight and Pull Ups Are Inversely Related
A new study shows an inverse relationship between being overweight and a person’s ability to perform pull-ups. That is, an increase in one effectively decreases the other. (i.e. more excess weight equals less pull-ups, and vice versa.)
For the study, a team of experts in Chicago randomly selected 15 men and 15 women from a local health club. The only condition is that they must be able to perform at least one legal pull-up. *In this group, the top performer was able to do 12 reps, while the bottom 8 were only able to do one.
all performances reduced
In the first step, they attached a 25-pound weight plate to each performer’s waist using a special weight belt and repeated the pull-up test again. As a result, 25 of the 30 participants were immediately unable to repeat once. The top participant’s performance dropped from 12 to 4 repetitions, while the other four decreased to 2, 2, 1 and 1, respectively.
Test repeated 4 times
In the second step, the same experiment was repeated four more times with 20, 15, 10 and 5 lb weight plates. As a result, with each reduction in excess weight, the group’s overall performance improved. Spokesman Dr IM Noduh said: “Our conclusion is that there is an inverse relationship between being overweight and a person’s pull-up ability. In other words, as excess weight increases, performance automatically decreases. On the other hand, as excess With less weight, performance automatically increases.”
The important thing is not…
In the third step, the team of experts carefully compared the 25-pound weight plates to the 25-pound weights. Refrigerate bacon grease (pure, unadulterated fat) and make sure they are the exact same weight, whether in pounds or kilograms. “The conclusion of step three,” says Noduh, “is that it makes absolutely no difference whether the excess weight is in the form of iron or fat. Both will equally inhibit pull-up performance.
What about pushups and handstand pushups
When asked if there were other bodyweight exercises such as dips, push-ups, handstand push-ups, rope climbing, vertical jumps, etc., the experts agreed that they hadn’t performed these experiments, but they speculated that the results would be the same. “There seems to be a direct relationship between the presence of being overweight and a person’s ability to functionally handle their own weight,” Noduh said. “It’s really as obvious as the nose on your face.”
*For the purposes of this study, a legal pull-up is when the performer starts in a hanging position with the elbows fully extended, then pulls himself up until the chin touches the bar, then returns to the starting position. This constitutes a repetition. Anything else, kicking, screaming, yelling, even swearing is fair game.
