Advice For Teenagers Trying To Lose Weight

If you’re a teenager and trying to lose weight, I know how you feel. From about 15 years old, I was fat. I’m not obese, but not just chubby. I guess it didn’t matter how fat I was, but the point was that the kids noticed and made fun of it. Every day I get called, every day I go home crying. Yes, a 14 year old boy who cries every night because all the kids hate him (at least I think so) and because I’m fat.

I once read something that I don’t quite remember the exact wording, but the idea was to change what you can, accept what you can’t, and know the difference between what you can and what you can’t. You can’t change how people treat you. People are jerks sometimes, especially teenagers. Obesity is something you can change.

People will tell you that you should accept who you are and not listen to what other people think, but I know how you feel. No one likes to be fat. Not everyone can be pretty or handsome, or the most popular kid in school, but being fat can make you feel bad. At least it makes me feel bad. If you’re trying to lose weight, there are certain things that will guarantee your success.

One is knowing that it will take time. You won’t lose weight overnight. If it’s the start of the school year, set a goal for the new year. If it’s New Years, set your sights on summer vacation. Depending on how overweight you are, it can take about six months to actually start. If you start dieting, it’s normal to lose about 5 pounds the first week or so and then slow down. This is normal, don’t be discouraged. It’s something you have to keep doing, even if it doesn’t look like you’re getting results.

Another thing is you need to be honest with yourself. You will have to count calories and start exercising. No one is watching you all the time. Even if your parents support your diet, they won’t know when you go to school for pizza and extra cheese for lunch. Only you will know. When you don’t walk or run to watch TV or just hang out, you will be the one to suffer the consequences, not anyone else.

That’s not to say you can’t eat junk food. Or you can’t go out with friends, which means you have to control your diet and exercise hard. If you do this for six months straight, I guarantee you will lose weight. You don’t need to starve yourself, eat only vegetables and water for six months, or run a mile in less than five minutes.

The most important thing is to get a formula and set goals. If you want to diet for six days and take a day off on Friday, do it. That’s what I use. I didn’t interrupt my plans at all, but I went out to McDonald’s with my friends on Friday and ate candy and drank soda. After a while though I found that I was feeling bad and didn’t really eat much on my days off, you need to find what works for you. If six months is too long, see how a month goes. If you really stick to your meal plan, you could lose 7 to 10 pounds. If you can do one month, you can do two. That’s 20 lbs. If you can do it for six months, you can actually lose about 40 pounds. My mom lost 60 pounds in six months without going on crazy fad diets.

Add them up. Make a sound plan, stick to it, and when you’re done with that plan, make a new one. You will be successful.
