How Many Carbohydrates Should You Include In Your Medifast Lean And Green Meal?
Sometimes I hear from people who want more clarification on Medifast lean and green. (This is the main meal that you prepare yourself. And since it is your responsibility to get it right, since this is the only meal that is not provided to you, few people want to mess this up.)
Sometimes people ask me how many carbs you should have for this main meal. I have to be honest and tell you that I don’t really watch it for myself. I generally follow the guidelines for ounces of lean protein and to include three servings of vegetables. And in my opinion, covering those bases should pretty much ensure that I don’t take in too many carbs.
However, this question intrigued me. So I set out to research this topic. Now, before I tell you what I found, I want to emphasize that I totally recommend that you take this matter to the company. However, general recommendations suggest that you should have no more than 80-85 carbohydrates per day.
So we can look at many prepackaged options, determine how many carbs they contain, and then figure out how much would be left over for your lean and green meals. For the purposes of their article, I’ll pick five meals, add up the total, and then figure out what you’d have left over. Note that this is one estimate for one day, but one great thing about Medifast meals is that they are often very similar in calories, carbs, and protein. This way you can choose anything and still be cool.
For breakfast I choose mixed cereal with berry crunch. It has 15 grams of carbohydrates. For a snack, I choose a chocolate shake, which has 13 grams. For lunch, a sloppy joe is 15. Afternoon snack at a crunchy butter bar, which is also 13. Finally, I chose a diet cookie for my nighttime snack, which is also 15. That gives me a total of about 71 carbs for the day, which leaves you with about 14 for your lean and green food.
When you think about it, it makes sense because each meal comes out to about 15 of your allotted carbs. Basically, this usually equates to a small serving six times a day, which I think is pretty reasonable. Again, these are just my own calculations based on random examples of foods I’ve chosen, so your results may vary slightly. You can do the same with your own foods and see if you get the same results.
